Surly Traveller's Check

Thinking of a versatile travel bike? The Surly Traveller's Check just might be what you're after. We have a previously loved 54 cm version in stock and waiting to find a new home. Actually, in the interest of full disclosure (and good salesmanship) we should say that the bike is owned by one of our staff, so you can be assured it's been treated well and is in superb shape.

For those who don't know, the Traveller's Check utilizes the venerable Cross Check frame but adds the industry standard S+S couplers to the top and down tubes so the frame can be broken down into two pieces and packed into much smaller than normal dimensions. This is a huge space saver when travelling and may also help you avoid those nasty airline luggage surcharges. For more info on the technology behind S+S couplers go to www.sandsmachine.com

The custom build we have for sale and pictured above is a pretty sweet package deal that includes fenders, rack, and a host of upgrades over the stock Cross Check - see further below for more details. It's touring or commuter ready and while it's not built with cable splitters (for complete disassembly of the two frame halves) the splitters are included.

If you're looking for a very versatile, do almost anything bike AND you like the idea of easy portability this bike might be just for you. At $1350 we doubt it will stick around for long.

Build includes Tiagra 9 speed drivetrain, Dura Ace bar end shifters, cyclocross outboard bearing crankset, Mavic rims / Deore hubs, fenders and rack.

For some reason or other we don't get many used comfort bikes coming in to us looking for new homes, but we did get one in yesterday so we've featured it above.

It's a women's model Giant Cypress size small. This is a very popular new bike for us so we predict the used one will go fast, especially at just $350.

Used Bike Update

If you're looking for a size small (if you're up to 5'6" or so) lightweight Niner this is the deal of the century. Seriously. It weighs in at just 18 lb 5 oz. Granted it's set up as a single speed right now (with a Paul Melvin to pick up the chain slack) but even if you add gears this will be a light weight bike.

It has a Scandium frame, a carbon Niner fork, Chris King hubs and headset, and a Thomson post and stem. But best of all it's being sold for just $1300, and it's in mint condition.

If the Air Nine isn't what you need then check out our other used bikes listed below:

Used Bike Update

Time for a used bike update:

Check out the really nice used 20" Karate Monkey for sale for just $800. It's set up as a single speed (but is easily converted to a geared bike) with a really nice old school XT crankset in the front, it has a disc brake up front and a flip flop hub with linear brake in the rear, and it has a nice, swept back bar, but maybe most significantly of all (if almost purely aesthetic) it has a nice, new custom paint job in a gorgeous robin's egg blue that's very similar to the current Cross Check colour.

It's been ridden with love by one of our close associates and OCC members and is ready to treat someone else as well as it's treated him.

As with all our used bikes when it's gone it's gone. Look below for our other used bike specials available at the time of this posting:

Used Bike Update, incl. Specialized Transition Feature

Right around this time of year is when we start getting triathlon bike inquires. Generally speaking triathletes like to plan ahead and they're usually plotting their competitive season while the snow is still on the ground (not that there's much of that this year), so we figured it was a good time to feature this great used bike deal.

The Specialized Transition pictured above is a great place to start if you're a tri newbie.  It has more of a road bike geometry that is easily adaptable to a tri position with a few simple tweaks, like adding a forward positioned seat post in place of the one that comes stock on the bike.  Why not just buy a bike with pure tri geometry right away?  Because a tri bike isn't allowed in road races, so if you have any thought of doing both this bike will be a lot more versatile.

It does come with tri-esque aero downtubing, low spoke count, moderately arrow rimmed wheels, and good quality profile aero clip on bars (which can easily come off if you decide to try out the aforementioned road race), so it's kind of a jack of all, or at least two, trades.  It's built up with quality Shimano 105 bits and a carbon fork.

The other thing that makes it obviously attractive to the newbie is the price.  No one has ever claimed that competing in triathlons is cheap, but at just $850 (!) this is just about the lowest price you'll find for a multisport bike.  Yes it's used, but barely.  It is in pristine condition.  It hit the road maybe 5 times before the owner decided he wanted to stick with mountain biking and then it came straight back to us.  Hey, triathlon isn't for everyone, but if it's for you this is possibly the best deal you'll come across to get you started.

Below is a list of the other used bikes currently in stock at the time of this posting.  For more info feel free to call us at 888.4586 or come down to the shop anytime. As always, used bikes are one-off deals and once they're gone, they're gone.

Used Bike Update

Pictured above is one sweet 'used' bike.  It was built up earlier this year and used by our shop Manager, but he's already moved on to other things (he loves the bike, but there's just too much to ride and a fun new bike is buying built up as this is typed) so this large sizes Niner Air Nine is now on the selling block.

Aside from the top of the line Scandium frame it has XTR bits, a Race Face Deus XC crankset, Juicy Ultimate brakes, ZTR Crest rims with Stan's 3.30 hubs, Thomson post and stem, and other good stuff to round it out.  Wow.  For $2800 you can buy what would easily cost a couple thousand dollars more new, and it's been very, very well maintained.

Used Marin Team Titanium

As you may know almost all of our used bikes are ones that have been taken in on trade, so it tends to be a really mixed bag and of course can change from week to week (check the column near the left side of this page for the current used selection, updated weekly).  Sometimes an extra special used bike shows up, like the one pictured above: The Marin Team Titanium.

This bike was build up beautifully (and wasn't hurt by starting with a full titanium frame) and ridden for just one season.  It has a SID Team fork, matching white Juicy Ultimate brakes, Mavic 717 rims, Race Face cranks, and an XT/XTR drivetrain.  At $2600 it isn't cheap, but it might just be the best value in the shop.

If you're a taller guy or really tall gal with a hankering for the best but a budget that's requesting a slightly less than top end price you need to check this out - there are simply no compromises.
